SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT

                                            the drawing.
This is a collaborative project between four members of the MA Curating course. We will purchase a drawing at an auction or gallery, which will be the first acquisition in our collective collection. We will fundraise to buy a small drawing, which will be exhibited at the Wimbledon space in March.  The opening reception for the exhibition will take place on the 24th of March. We will spend the weeks before installing and organizing the archive. As such we aim to have the piece selected and bought from auction, at the very latest, by the end of February. We hope to put on a fundraising event in the Green Room in Chelsea College in late January, possibly in conjunction with a Train lecture.

The main focus of the project will be the processes that lead to the final exhibition. We will research into the auction, the drawing we wish to purchase and what it means to act as a collective when purchasing one work. Everything leading up to the exhibition will be documented and as such we will build an archive around the process to be displayed as an integral part of the exhibition.

A strong emphasis in the project is on learning and exploring, for us, previously unseen aspects of the art world. As Wimbledon College has a strong connection with drawing we will reflect on this in the archive by documenting important events through drawing in our individual visual diaries. We will think of the term drawing in the broadest sense and experiment with different methods, graphs, maps etc. It was suggested we involve artists in this documentation however, as this project is about our learning and understanding of different systems it is more interesting if we take on the role of artist and document our own experiences ourselves. We will also contact the MA Conservation at Camberwell to have the drawing valued. Any reports and feedback we receive will all become part of the archive.
