EXHIBITION DESIGN DRAFT

I will divide the space into 4 different sections in order to show the different roles assumed throughout the process.

I will put the central area as our working/performance place. We can recreate the working site here, or even make a one day performance and leave the scene as an ‘ongoing-final artwork’.

Around the central area (as the background of our working area) is the archive area. We can have a discussion to decide the archive and here I present the two ideas of mine (with the ways to display the archive):
1)    Archive divided into different roles
Based on the concept of performing different functions and assuming different roles in this project, we could archive the materials into the different roles such as collective, collector, artist, archivist, curator and manager. We organize the materials in the way we define these roles.

2)    Different material telling the same story
The theme of our project is about the drawing collective. We have learnt a lot during the process and have made a lot of recordings as well. The second idea is to use separate spaces to display the different recording materials, like photos, audio/videos, sketch, reference books…

! About The Light
-       Central Area
Lights here are on all the time.

-       Archive Area
Lights here will turn on selectively. I want to use the light as a clue to let the audience know we are not only switching the roles in the project but also setting up relationships between the roles. So the lights will be lit in one section for 15 minutes and then move to the next for another 15 minutes. (It was my original idea, it’s easy to do but boring.) We could light the parts at the same time in which they have a strong association (for example, the fundraising event & the recording of how we spend the money), and then move to another pair of relationships. (Does it make sense?)

Conclusion:
1)    I think light for exhibition designers is like the brush for artists. I think light could be a tool to show our curatorial statement.
2)    We might use the archive/exhibition design to make a piece of artwork.

1)    Equipment required list
For display
-       Working table
-       Chairs (at least 4)
-       Show case (with glass cases) – for books/sketch/…
-       Clips (I have some) – for photographs
-       TV with headphone
-       Speaker
-       Laptop/pc? (I think it quite difficult)
